This time ten years ago

by LifeLoveLaura on April 30, 2014

There’s no One Song Wednesday this week as Little T and I are still transfixed to last week’s song! Instead I thought I’d take part in a post I was tagged in by Donna from Redhead Babyled, talking about what I was doing ten years ago. I started uni in September 2003 so 2004 was part of my first year and the start of my party years. It is a time that I have mixed feelings about…

Ten Years Ago… I was 19 and a half

Ten Years Ago… I had seen the new year in on a Hudson River cruise in NYC with my parents and their friends. My mum got arseholed and was crawling around the floor under the tables.

Ten Years Ago… I lived in halls at uni. The halls of residence were in the village that I grew up in so I had the best of both worlds – the uni life away from home and without my parents breathing down my neck but I could still pop a mile up the road to have a poo in the comfort of my own home.

Ten Years Ago… I’d known Big T for a matter of months, we met not long before as we were both on the same uni course. I made it my mission to get to know him as I loved his indie kid looks. Little did we know that ten years down the line we’d be married with the most gorgeous baby boy!

Ten Years Ago… I became friends with a brand new set of people. These people were called The Paddingtons, a band from my home town bordering the crest of the NME wave but they just missed the boat. I officially became an annoying groupie and I took part in everything that goes hand in hand with being a groupie! I am still quite ashamed of this, I was a tit.

Ten Years Ago… I did, however, have LOTS of fun travelling the country and meeting some weird and wonderful people.

Ten Years Ago… I went out almost every night of the week and all I had to worry about was making sure I had whatever I wanted to enjoy my night!

Ten Years Ago… I went to Leeds Festival for the first time with no ticket. I wormed my way in the back entrance with my band friends who were playing and I ended up blagging a free full weekend VIP pass with nothing but the clothes on my back with me. My parka, that weekend, was my sleeping bag and my saviour. I haven’t had a better festival experience!

Ten Years Ago… I worked in a local supermarket at weekends and on evenings. Most Saturday and Sunday mornings, after being out until 7am and starting work at 9, I had completely forgotten where I’d parked my car by the time it came to my lunch break.

Ten Years Ago… Big T and I had had our first drunken snog by now but we didn’t talk about it. As far as we were concerned it had never happened.

Ten Years Ago… I decided Big T was going to be “the one.” He didn’t feel the same for a long time.

Ten Years Ago… I became more and more all about my friends in the band, the “rock n roll” lifestyle and less bothered about uni.

Ten Years Ago… Big T and I would go out for meals and spend time watching anything and everything at the cinema rather than going to lectures. Naughty.

Ten Years Ago… I lived in jeans, velvet blazers and neck scarves.

Being a student and a dirty (quite literally) indie kid, 2004 wasn’t a deep and meaningful year of my life but it was the start of LOTS of fun. I barely have any photos as I didn’t own a camera. It’s probably a good job! I peaked a bit too early in life and this is why I don’t really drink much these days.

What were you doing ten years ago? I tag Amy from Reflection of Us, Claire from You and Me are Family and Katie from KT BTW.

Love this! Made me giggle. I’ll have to have a good think back 10 years, mine is going to be nowhere near as interesting as yours though!

WOW, I am amazed you can remember 10 years back! I would have to sit in a darkened room to try and drag back memories! Dead funny though – sounds like you lived a proper student life!!!

I bet you were a dirty indie kid in that Parka! I’m loving that Puma bag too (I had a large Puma flight bag and I thought I was so cool!!)

Love this Laura – sounds like 10 years ago was a very monumental year for you!
And i really love the festival story – you crazy kid, sleeping in your parka! Can you imagine the sheer horror of doing something like that now?! x

Loved reading this L; that story about your mum is hilarious.

So many travels and good times to look back on though.

Claire tagged me so im going to have to get the photo albums out, although in the days before digital cameras I probably only have pics of any trips we took, going to get writing! x
