The Mummy Tag

by LifeLoveLaura on February 27, 2014

I’ve been tagged by Jess from A Hefty Helicopter and the Mini Copters to take part in the Mummy Tag. The nosey sod in me loves posts like this as I love reading all about my fellow mummies! I particularly liked Jess’ separate bed thing, we’ll soooo be doing that when we get a bigger house for the same reasons as Jess! Have a look at her Mummy Tag, it’s fun!

So, here goes…

Life Love Laura The Mummy Tag

1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum or a Working Mum?
I’m a full time working mum.

2. Would you have it any other way?
Umm this question can open a can of worms with me. The short answer is YES. The long (ish) answer is oh what I’d give to be able to stay at home with my baby every day. Sadly we can’t afford it. Big T is currently training to be a mental health nurse so once he qualifies in a couple of years and is earning a bit more money the plan is for me to drop my hours, much to his dislike! Although he has come to terms with this now. It’s just one step closer to my dream of staying at home with the babies, I say it often – I’d even be willing to wear pretty dresses with an apron and bake! When I think of my imaginary dream life as housewife I think of Somewhere That’s Green from Little Shop of Horrors. THAT’S the life I want, although I know it’s wishful thinking as staying at home isn’t easy either!

3. Do you co-sleep?
With my husband, a cat and a big golden labrador, yes. With Little T, no. We have a small double bed so as you can imagine, with a brood of animals and snoring husband I barely sleep as it is. I couldn’t cope with Little T in there too, kicking me in the back all night. When he has been super poorly with his teeth we put him in the middle of us if he can’t settle in his own room but we’ve only needed to do that a couple of times. I’m a big believer in bed time routines and little ones getting used to sleeping in their own room. Plus, I’m up for work at 5.45am so I need to get as much sleep as I can and wouldn’t want to wake Little T up either.

4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
I hate to sound like a party pooper as I could say something fun here but I’m going to say a good, safe car seat. I’m actually a bit of a stickler when it comes to car seat safety, I can’t help it, it’s soooo important!

5. How many kids do you plan on having?
Now that depends on if I win the lottery or not! I have big pipe dreams of money being no object so in an ideal world I’d have four. In reality, Big T and I are only ever going to be able to afford two children and that’s at a push. We often weight up whether to stay at one and be able to have the nice things in life that we’re used to or whether to have another and struggle along. I really do want a sibling for Little T though but if we do, financially, it can’t be until Big T is qualified and has a job and until Little T is at school. It’s a shame that we have to think like this and plan our children with military precision but that’s life!

6. Date nights? How often do you have them?
We’re lucky as my parents only live a 5 minute drive away and they’re always so keen to have T stay over for the night if they can. Even if we don’t have anything planned mum will ask if T can stay over so we don’t really have planned date nights, they tend to be spontaneous meals out every so often. Or we have weekends away to see something special at the theatre, like when we went to see The Book of Mormon in London!

7. Your child’s favourite show?
It pains me to say that T quite likes The Tweenies. He loves Old Jack’s Boat as well on an evening when he’s winding down for bed (and I love it too!) I think it’s because Little T and I have the sea and all things nautical in our blood!

8. Name one thing you bought before you had the baby and never ended up using?
A Bumbo seat. We used it a couple of times to give Little T his breakfast in our bed on a few lazy Sunday mornings but that was it. We waited until 6 months to wean T so by this time he could sit up anyway. Because of this, we found that we used his baby bouncer for chilling out and his high chair for eating so we didn’t really need his Bumbo. Thankfully, we never experienced the dreaded “Bumbo poo” either! A Bumbo is better used as a helmet.

9. Your child’s favourite food?
I feel a little bit ashamed to say that T takes after his mum and loves bread and cheese… in various different forms! He does love peas too but now he’s older and pickier about his grub, they’re pretty much the only vegetable he’ll entertain. And it’s not for want of trying!!

10. How many cars does your family have?
We have Big T’s little grandad car that he mainly uses for work (a Honda Jazz) and my mine and Little T’s “mum bus” (Peugeot 3008). I LOVE the mum bus, it’s a bit like a space ship and I’d happily sit in there all day!

11. Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now?
I’ve always been a bit of a fatty and have yo-yo dieted pretty much all of my life, even as a kid. It makes me sad to think really. I was constantly told I was fat my midwives during pregnancy but I’m not actually sure how much weight I gained, maybe about two stones? I didn’t really weigh myself. During maternity leave and sitting on my arse for a year I did gain quite a bit more weight but again, I didn’t weigh myself until recently. I know that until the past few months I was the fattest I’ve ever been but I’ve started to do something about it and have lost almost a stone! I know this because I have finally put some batteries back into my scales!

12. Dream holiday with your kids?
FLORIDA!! Big T and I have both been a few times before and we can’t wait to take Little T, we’re already saving for it! We are going when Big T finishes his training as a “congratulations” present and I have been counting down the days since the day Big T started his training, which was, coincidently, the day Little T was born! I know when we go I am just going to cry my way round every day. It’s magical enough, without having a little one in tow! I’ll have to make sure I pack my big sunglasses!

13. Dream holiday without your kids?
Hmm, this is a tricky one as my dream holiday is Florida with Little T. I would give anything to go back to New Zealand though but I’d want to go for a few months again. I would, however, take Little T there too! *Starts to plan a Family K New Zealand camper van trip*

14. How has your life changed since having kids?
Quite a bit actually. I always thought I was career driven but since having Little T I’m not sure if I ever was, I think I was just striving to be the person my parents wanted me to be. I never thought I’d say it but I’d happily choose kids over a career now which is why I’ve chosen to stay in the job I’m in rather than pursue any sort of training. A career is always there if you choose to go back to it. I’m also much happier in myself, I’m happier with my body and I’m happier in general. Having children also allows you to be a big kid again, a stage I’ve never really grown out of! And, without sounding like a heartless bitch, I never liked kids until having my own. Now, I can’t see a little one without grinning like a weirdo. They just make me smile!

15. Finish the sentence “It makes heart melt when…”
Little T comes in for a massive smacker on the lips.

16. Where do you shop for your kids?
Mainly H&M and Next. Both of their clothes are good sizes and wash so well. That’s what you need when you have a little tyke! How much of a mum do I sound?

17. Favourite make-up and skincare products?
I have quite oily skin and I swear by Dermalogica Ultra Calming cleanser, Multi Active toner spray and Active Moist moisturiser – if only I could afford them these days! I used them in the run up to my wedding and until having T and they worked wonders for my skin. These days I’m a Boots Cucumber face wipes kind of girl but even those are great! I don’t go anywhere without my Tesco Barbara Daly One Step foundation, it’s amazing. Not only for time saving but it gives the best coverage out of any foundation I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot of the expensive ones.

18. Huggies or Pampers?
I’m a huge Pampers fan. We’ve tried Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Tesco, Boots and Sainsbury’s own brands and none of them have lived up to Pampers for us. I like how thin Pampers are and they’re the only brand that haven’t given T nappy rash. Yes they’re expensive but we buy in bulk when they’re on offer now he’s a little bit older and has stopped growing out of nappy sizes so quickly.

19. Have you always wanted kids?
No, it hasn’t been until the past couple of years that my maternal side has kicked in. As a kid, teenager and in my early twenties I didn’t like children but now I’m a sucker for babies!

20. Best part of being a mum?
Where do you start with this one?! Looking at your baby and thinking “wow, you grew in my belly,” watching him grow, seeing him laugh, hearing him pick up words, having family days out, seeing him become best friends with our Daisy dog, seeing how much my family adore him, making amazing memories and being a big kid again!

So, now it’s time to tag some other fab mummies…
