Share your nursery: Polly & Archie

by LifeLoveLaura on February 25, 2014

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s “Share your nursery” day! This week we have the lovely Polly from Polly’s Little World and her beautiful little man, Archie.

My name’s Polly and I have a little boy called Archie who was born in October 2013. I am currently enjoying maternity leave from my job in Accounts. I love going to festivals, reading blogs, eating cheese, looking through car boots, vintage markets and trying my hand at up-cycling.

Being a mummy

I love being a parent more than I could ever imagine, there are so many proud moments but the hardest for me has to be the unpredictability. I like to be as organised as possible but Archie usually has other ideas.

Has becoming a parent changed you at all?

I like to think parenting has changed me in a huge way, my pregnancy was not planned and we were both in our early twenties living carelessly. We had always talked about having babies in the future but we lived in a tiny flat and were not financially ready. Now I wouldn’t change anything for the world, I love my little family to bits.

The question on every new parents’ lips, how do you cope with the lack of sleep?

I have always been quite good at functioning with no sleep as I used to work night shifts a few years ago. Archie is a very good sleeper but my top tip has to be to take it in turns, at least then your not both completely useless the next day. I am also a massive believer in routines, its hard work at first but we managed to get Archie into a routine at 2 weeks old and its worked wonders for us all.

Where did you get the inspiration for your nursery decor?

I am not a massive fan of themed rooms and I love shabby-chic white furniture so that was an inspiration for the room. I just wanted to fill it with pieces as we went along. We didn’t have much money at the time so the whole room we managed to source for around £180! The chair (which I am looking to cover) is from my old room/the guest room at my Mums house, the changing table somebody was getting rid of so that was free & the cot was just £60 from IKEA. I love Ikea, the furniture is such great designs at such a small price. We picked up a few baby things from there and other bits like the Beatrix Potter cushion I found at an Antique’s market. I think our nursery just shows that you can do it on a small budget. Archie’s nursery is re-cycled, simple and usable.

Did you decorate whilst you were expecting or did you wait until Archie arrived?

Even though Archie doesn’t sleep in his cot just yet we got everything ready before he arrived- thank god we did as I don’t think I would have the time now. I also wanted a “project” while on maternity leave so I up-cycled the changing table.

Which is your favourite part of the nursery?

I am really happy with the whole nursery but my favourite two pieces would have to be; the “Archie” bunting my friend brought us when he arrived and the memory box I made him. I love looking back over keepsakes and through all the memories.

Which items have been the most useful?

The three item’s we cant live without have to be, the changing table, the comfy chair (which I have napped in on a few evenings) and the mobile/pram arches to keep him entertained.

Is there anything in your nursery that you haven’t really used?

Thinking about it there isn’t much we haven’t used in the nursery!!

If you could have one dream nursery item, what would it be?

I would love to buy a Poco Baby Hammock, they look amazing.

Thank you so much for taking part Polly. I adore the Archie bunting, it’s such a sweet little touch! I wonder if they make those baby hammocks in adult sizes, they look so cosy! You can follow Polly and Archie on Twitter at @PollysLWorld.

If you’d like to feature on “Share your nursery,” please get in touch via Twitter or Facebook. I’d love to hear from you!

I love the bunting, I might have to take a trip to our old lady fabric shop and make some for Woody!

I’m now also totally coveting a Poco Baby Hammock so thanks for that….!!
