Share your nursery: Louise & Luke

by LifeLoveLaura on March 4, 2014

Welcome to “Share your nursery,” the feature where mummies and daddies give other parents and parents to be tips, experiences and nursery decor inspiration! This week we have the lovely Louise and Luke from Tattooed Lady with a Baby.

Hello, my name is Louise and I am mum to Luke. I love everything to do with tattoos (8 so far and counting!), photography, baking cakes (but never actually eat them after all my effort!) and cleaning, yes I did say cleaning! I would love to own my own business in the future. Luke loves his plastic toy train, making us put the bricks in it just so he can throw them out and being on his feet. His little face lights up when we hold his hands and he can “walk” a few steps…he’s going to be a right independent little mister I think!

Being a mummy

When people say being a parent is the hardest job in the world, they aren’t lying. The crying and not knowing why, the trying everything to entertain them but they still aren’t happy, the refusal to either eat or drink (this makes me want to tear my hair out!), teething… are all hard parts of this “job”. However, they are out done by the wonderful love I feel for my little boy, I never thought I would ever feel like this. The smallest smile lights up my heart so much and when we are snuggled in bed in the mornings or at nap time, there’s nowhere else in the world I’d rather be.

Has being a mummy changed you at all?

Most definitely! I was never the most patient person but that changes when a baby comes along. You HAVE to be patient, these tiny humans don’t yet understand the ways of the world and they need you to show and teach them. I never realised how good I was at baby talk either! I’m fluent in “googoo gaagaa” these days! Multi tasking using only one hand while I’ve a baby on my hip is another valuable skill I never knew I had.

How do you cope with the lack of sleep?

I’m not entirely sure how we do it but we just do! Luke wasn’t the best sleeper from day one but he’s improving. We just had to adjust and do what worked for us as a family. This is how we came about having a “Family Bed” situation. To benefit all of us Luke comes into our bed most mornings around 5am where we can all catch a few extra Zzz’s before starting our day around 7.30am. I’ve resigned myself to the fact I may never have a full night’s sleep again…well that’s what it feels like at the moment, let’s hope that changes.

Our nursery is a warm and cosy place filled with lots (and lots!) of clothes and teddy bears. I’ve always been a fan of Winnie the Pooh so I thought what better theme for Luke’s bedroom.

Did you decorate whilst you were pregnant or did you wait until Luke arrived?

We decorated whilst I was expecting but ended up having to move Luke to the other bedroom as it was much warmer, I don’t know why we didn’t do this from the start as it’s a much cosier room anyway.

What is your favourite part of your nursery?

My favourite part of this room is the feeding chair next to the cot, its where me and Luke wind down every night before he goes to bed. He sleepily drinks his bottle and I get to have some quality cuddle time with him which I treasure these days now that I am back at work. Also we recently got some wall letter to spell out Luke’s name and I just love them! They are hanging next to his cot.

Which items have been the most useful?

The most useful things in our nursery would be a turtle glo light we got in Aldi, it leaves off a subtle light in the room as well changing to a different colour if the room is too hot or too cold. We had a changing table attached to the end of the cot at the start which was very handy for middle of the night nappy changing which was quite frequent at the start! We also have a wipe clean large play mat on the floor of the room, this is so handy as we have wooden floors and it just makes the room that bit quieter. Luke loves to play down there too.

Is there anything in your nursery that you haven’t used?

I think we have used everything in the nursery at some point, whether it was for weeks or months so didn’t find anything we had went to waste.

If you could have one dream nursery item, what would it be?

I’d love a canopy for Luke’s cot but his Dad isn’t so keen on the idea, he thinks it might too girly! I think it would just be cosy!

Thank you so much Louise. I adore Luke’s bedding so much! You can follow Louise on Twitter at @tattooedmumsy.
