Share your nursery: Jessica & Bea

by LifeLoveLaura on February 4, 2014

It’s “Share your nursery” time again! This week I am lucky to be featuring my beautiful Goddaughter and Little T’s best bud, Bea. It’s now over to Bea’s mummy and my best bud, Jessica.

Hi, my name’s Jessica & 10 months ago I became a mummy for the first time when we had our gorgeous little girl Bea. I have been married to my husband Tom for three years this summer & we also have an extremely hyper black Labrador called Noah who is proving to be a great big brother to Bea!

Being a mummy

I have loved everything about being a mummy so far, I am under no illusion though that we have been very lucky. Bea is the most laid back baby, who loves nothing more than sleeping, (unless she is eating)! The hardest part so far for me is having to recently go back to work in the new year. I have only gone back part time so know I am quite lucky, but today I missed her crawling for the first time & I was devastated!

Has becoming a mummy changed you at all?

I don’t think I have changed a great deal since having Bea, although I do seem to sing everything now. We have a song for just about every event in the day, when we get dressed, when we brush our teeth, when we get in the bath & out the bath… I think even Bea thinks I’m a little crazy!

Did you decorate whilst you were pregnant or did you wait?

When we were pregnant we always knew we wanted to find out if we were having a boy or girl, we wanted to feel as prepared as possible. At our 20 week scan they told us they could only give us a 70% chance of our baby being girl! My first thought was “I need to know how to decorate my nursery!” So we went for a 4D scan & got the news confirmed, we were definitely having a little lady! As soon as we knew for sure the decorating began.

Our spare room was already painted a baby blue so to give us less work we decided to just add a feature wall in dusky pink, that way it would be girly but not a pink overload which I wanted to avoid! Painting done we found the most gorgeous furniture set from Next which had a vintage style & we thought would even last her until when she demands her first big girl room & we have to redecorate.

All of Bea’s bedding & accessories came from Joules which I adore and since she was born I have also got some of my favourite clothes of hers from there! I chose the Madhatter range which his soooo gorgeous! It is pink and has rabbits and tea party things on but is still subtle, I wanted to avoid lots of cartoon like characters that would soon seem babyish! From some of the additional bedding my mum and I also made some bunting and lettering to spell Bea’s name over her cot.

What is your favourite part of Bea’s nursery?

My favourite & most special part of the nursery for me are the nursery rhyme jigsaws that I had framed & put on the wall. They were jigsaws my sister and I had when we were small and we loved playing with them. I also have a wooden chair which was given to me by my grandma and was the chair she had for my dad when he was little.

Is there anything in Bea’s nursery that you haven’t used and what can’t you live without?

We never use her cot mobile because its quite loud, however I don’t regret getting it because it is very pretty. The one thing we couldn’t do without in our nursery now though is Bea’s pal, Ewan the Dreamsheep. He never fails to sing her to sleep!

Ten months on I still love Bea’s nursery so much and it is by far my favourite room in the house. I find it so relaxing and peaceful in there. I’m pretty sure she likes it too because she loves bedtime and often enjoys a little lie in!

Thank you so much Jess and Bea. I adore Bea’s nursery so much, I’m not surprised it’s your favourite room in the house! You can follow Jess and Bea on Twitter at @ThorpJessica.
