Little T talks – Part 1

by LifeLoveLaura on January 5, 2014

Little T is 16 months now and he’s quickly picking up and copying words. He said “mama” quite early on but I think that was more a flukey sound rather than the actual word. “Hiya” was his first proper word, well not proper but you know what I mean, usually said when picking up my phone and putting it to his ear. I don’t even like talking on my phone so he’s probably picked that up from Grandma! We can often hear him greeting himself when he wakes up in a morning. “Hiya, hiya, hiya.” Or maybe he’s talking to the teddys on top of his drawers? I don’t know but it’s bloody cute. “Daddy” has been a firm favourite for a good few months too, although it’s only recently that he has been able to put it into context – we realised this when he pointed to a photo of Big T, shouting “daddyyy.” Up until then EVERYTHING he pointed at was “daddy.” “Daisy” is another one he mastered quite early on, which was SO sweet!

No T, that’s not Daddy

I have noticed over the past week or so that he’s turned into even more of a sponge, eager to copy off everybody around him. Although he can’t talk much it’s obvious that he knows what quite a lot of words mean. You ask him “T, where’s mummy’s head?” and he will point to my head… or his! I’m now on with trying to get him to point to his nose! He has known what “kiss” means for a while, puckering up with his big juicy lips whenever you ask him, sometimes toddling over off his own back to give you a huge snotty open mouthed smacker. Fact is, he just loves kisses.

Yesterday was his best day so far when it comes to talking. I love to point to photos of his family and friends and ask him who they are. Last night he hit the jackpot with that one when I showed him a photo of my cat that lives at my mum and dad’s. “T, who’s that?” “Lyla” he said all cute and smiley. I did it another couple of times to check that it wasn’t a fluke and it wasn’t. “Lyla, Lyla, Lyla” he said. Another pet name ticked off the list! Winning on one and losing on the other, he decided “poo” was his favourite word last night. Go son! I mean, T, that’s very inappropriate (muwhaha). Not that I’ve been teaching him how to say “poo,” it’s just something that pops out (excuse the pun), when we talk about changing his nappy. I definitely think that one’s a firm favourite with him now though as he seems to enjoy the sound it makes when he says it, “poooooo.” That won’t be embarrassing at all. It’s a good job we have no weddings or Christenings to go to any time soon, can’t imagine that would go down well in church!

He also seems to have the grasp of questions. I’m no child language acquisition expert by all means but I’m guessing that it’s something to do with the tone of our voice when we ask him a question. The only problem is, every answer is “yeah.”

“T, do you love mummy?” “Yeah”

“T, do you want spag bol for tea?” “Yeah”

“T, do you think daddy is silly?” “Yeah”

One day, he’ll get caught out with that one!

I just love watching him learn more and more every day, it makes me smile so much. His cheeky little character is really shining these days, he’s going to be a handful but a good handful! The one thing that doesn’t make me smile so much is that he will still not say Mummy. Waaaaaahhhhh. I know he’ll get there with it eventually but until then I’ll continue to sulk and think that he loves everyone else more than me. Ah the insecurities of a new mum!

So carry on Little T, mummy and daddy love hearing you talk!

Hahaha, Pooooooo!! I think that was probably quite an early one with Scarlett too, you can’t beat it, the Oooo sound is very nice to say. It’s terrible but I can’t remember Scarlett’s first words…. Also, Mummy is quite a hard one apparently so don’t worry about that. Oh and just wait, because there’s nothing like the whining intonation that eventually becomes, MuuuuuuuUUUUm, when they want something…!

Haha not gonna lie, I’m still guilty of the “muuuuuummmmm” thing myself!
